I have been teaching in the public school system on and off for 15 years. Having taught bilingual students and below average students in the primary grades, I knew how the process worked. I was able to use my program in an RSP class and it met with success. I have made overheads of the vocabulary word lists and have used them in a regular classroom, too. Home School Teacher I decided to quit teaching and have a family. I was not able to find a complete program for teaching my child how to read. Since I could not find any materials to my satisfaction, I made up my own lessons using the familiar and logical progression of sounds. As I was going through the work anyway, I added fail-safe portions to meet the needs of younger or struggling learners planning to use it in the future in my own classroom. Because my son scored so well on the standardized test in first grade both in reading and vocabulary, I thought I'd offer my program to anyone who wanted to help a child read. Special Education Teacher I have met success in RSP using my program to reteach 5th graders their phonics, help dyslexic children reinforce letter patterns, and get beginning readers over the initial hump of word attack skills and letter and sound patterns. There are manipulatives and a lot of activities to keep the active children busy, too. Artist and Publisher My mother is artistic so I asked her to do the artwork on the flashcards and games. I also published the book myself, made the cassettes, assembled and collated the items in order to keep the price as low as possible. If I sold the program to a publisher, he would most likely tweak it and quadruple the price. |
